How AirTran U WorksEligibilityTo qualify for AirTran U, you must be 18 to 22 years old; you don't have to be a student. But once you've reached your 23rd birthday, you're no longer eligible. You are allowed to carry an infant under two years of age in your arms at no additional charge. Travel is not valid to/from San Juan. PackingAs an AirTran U standby passenger, you are permitted one carry-on item and one personal item. A personal item may be a handbag, umbrella, coat, camera, reading material, infant food, briefcase, or laptop computer. No carry-on item may exceed overall dimensions of AirTran Airways’ baggage policy, and all items must fit under the seat or in the overhead bin. See airtranu.com for current baggage policies. Any heavy item must be placed underneath your seat. Per TSA’s recent guidelines, travelers can now bring liquids, gels and aerosols into their carry-on luggage. The items must be stored in containers no larger than 3-ounces and must be housed in a single, quart-sized zip-top, clear plastic bag. At the AirportTo get on the AirTran U standby list, you must arrive at the ticket counter at least two hours before scheduled departure of the flight. You will be asked to show a valid, government issued photo ID to verify age requirements. The boarding process begins promptly 30 minutes prior to departure, so make sure you are in the gate area to listen for your name to be called. No exceptions. PaymentUpon arrival at the ticket counter, you will be asked for $69* per segment ($99* for long-haul segments). You may pay by either credit card or cash. AirTran U standby fares are per segment and Airport Passenger Facility Charges of up to $4.50 per segment may apply. In addition, per-segment taxes of $3.60 and September 11th security fee of up to $2.50 are not included. A segment is defined as one takeoff and one landing. Patience PleaseOnce you have checked in for your flight at the ticket counter, please proceed to the gate and wait patiently. If the flight fills up, try another flight. Please do not disturb the gate agents as they work. If you checked in at the ticket counter, then they know that you are waiting to get on the flight. Please do not crowd the gate podium. Please be nice to the gate agents. Gate agents have the right to refuse boarding. Things You Should KnowThis is a standby program for coach class only. You do not have a confirmed seat, and no reservations can be made for the program if you have a reservation on any AirTran Airways flight on the same day. Standby passengers are not eligible for denied boarding compensation. Every stop is considered a new segment for which you must be cleared. A segment is defined as one takeoff and one landing. If your trip requires a connection, you must pay for all segments at the ticket counter in the origination city for one-way and connecting travel. Flights to/from San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Seattle, or Denver are considered long-haul segments, and cost $99* per segment. Earning CreditsAs an A+ Rewards member, you’ll earn 1/2 of an A+ Rewards credit each way when you fly with AirTran U. Just make sure to bring your A+ Rewards number with you to the airport. Once you’ve earned 8 full A+ Rewards credits, you’ll be able to redeem them for a free** AirTran Airways one-way flight. Black Out DatesTravel with AirTran U for 2009 begins January 6. The following dates are blacked out for travel in 2009: February 13, 16; April 3–5, 9, 10, 19; May 22, 25; June 21, 26, 28; July 3, 5, 12; November 25, 28–30. The last date for travel is December 17, 2009. AirTran U is not available on code-share flights or partner flights. Prepare...For departure. Enjoy your flight.
